Jenipher - August 22nd - 24th - London

After meeting Kate at Victoria station, where I was so thrilled to be a part of the huge crowds, we dropped off the bags at Kate and Harti's flat in Highgate. Then we headed out for a busy day one which included shopping on Oxford St, Madame Tussaud's, rush hour on the Central Line, Changing of the Guard, and Ripleys Believe It or Not. Then it was time for lunch. After lunch we hit up the Sherlock Holmes museum, the London Eye, London Dungeons, and a boat cruise. On day 2.....

Ha ha ha. Just kidding! That is my nightmare itinerary in London! Let's start over.

Jen in Highgate

Day one was a nice quiet day which included a lovely walk around Kate's neighbourhood and a delicious Indian takeaway for supper. On Tuesday morning I went for a walk to pick wild blackberries on a path near Kate's while Kate and Harti did some work. Unbeknownst to me, picking blackberries in London has an added attraction: stinging nettles! Yikes! Needless to say the picking didn't last long.

Late morning Kate and I did a 5km walk along a lovely trail in her neighbourhood, a former railway which was converted to a nature reserve, something not found in all parts of London. Have I mentioned yet that it was 30 degrees?! After lunch Kate and I headed to Covent Garden for a little shopping. Our number one goal was to purchase a lifetime supply of Compeeds (blister plasters). The clerk at the drugstore said "you must do a lot of walking!!!" I replied that I am walking across England and she gave me a look of "yeah right." After a brief discussion she wished me a good trip.
Not going to happen!

A couple of shops later it was off to Gordon's (London's oldest wine bar) to meet Harti. After a lovely bottle of wine and some delicious cheese it was time for dinner. And by the way...it's still 30 degrees. And London hasn't heard of air conditioning! Arriving at the Opera Tavern we were thrilled to find out we were seated on the second floor. The food was fantastic but the company and conversation was even better.

Wednesday dawned hotter than the day before. Too hot to do our planned walk to Hampstead Heath. Kate and I decided to head to Chelsea in search of linen dinner napkins for Paul and I. The shops on the posh King's Road were perfect for Sandy Cove! Did I mention that it is now more than 30 degrees and we are absolutely dripping.

On Wednesday evening Harti taught a lesson in the flat so Kate and I decamped to a local pub....one with a large outdoor garden....to get out of the way and maybe try to cool down a little.
