We have porridge for breakfast - and chat to a father and son from New Hampshire who are finishing the walk in Kirkby Stephen as the son is off to university in England and also chat to a man in his late 60's cycling from Landsend to John 'o Groats. He tells us he's wanted to do this ride since he was a teenager - love it.
It's going to be a long day and we start with a walk across wet fields and up and over the M6 motorway.
Often when we walk we seem to start out at the same time as 2 pairs of Americans, an older couple from California and younger ones from Seattle. We always let them get well ahead of us as we find them slightly too enthusiastic for us understated Canadians!
They are just ahead of us as we start out and we all make the same navigational mistake at one point early in the day and end up together for a time. We let them get ahead of us. They're nice enough but we don't want to walk with them…comes a point where the path veers off and so we take our chance and take a different way. They see us do this and we can tell it really perplexes them…it's a bit mean really, but there you go. We eventually end up on the same path but they are way ahead of us.
Twenty miles is the farthest Jen and I have ever walked…it took us ten hours. Slow going but we made it and as we keep saying to each other - it's not a race.

We both enjoy a well deserved shower before heading out for dinner which is at the Pennine Hotel about fifteen steps from our B&B. Thank goodness. We enjoy a great meal and then it's back to our room for another early night!

ReplyDelete36 miles in 2 days, incredible. And I know the photos aren't doing justice to the difficulty of the terrain.
Jen and Linda you must be nearing the half way mark, so proud of both of you Love Kathy
ReplyDeleteWhoot! Whoot! You are truly doing it and keeping us watchers enthralled. So funny about avoiding the other walkers!
